LUCANIA. Velia. Circa 300-280 BC. Didrachm or Nomos (Silver, 20 mm, 7.53 g, 3 h). Head of Athena to right, wearing crested Attic helmet adorned with a griffin springing right on the bowl; behind neck guard, A; below chin, [Φ]. Rev. ΥEΛHTΩN Lion walking right; above, dolphin right between I and Φ. HN Italy 1307. Williams 446c (this coin). Beautifully toned and of wonderful early Hellenistic style. Minor flan faults on the obverse, otherwise, good very fine.
